The Shit Happens School Of Sociology.
Whensuch a celebrated Indian mind such
as Andre Béteille engages with the the
incorrigible issue of corruption in India, The
flip side of fighting graft . I am drawn to it like a bee to the flower. like the
flower to the sun.
ambrosia of blessed comprehension has this "leading"
"distinguished" academic, a veritable jewel of Indian academia,
consummated to heal our chronically febrile body politic?
There is a muted warning in the
sub ed's tag line : "The attack on
corruption should not turn into disregard and contempt for institutions"
This is the party line
conjured by Shri Zero Loss Sibal
The same tripe that made you wonder what powers of
magic had Shri Zero Loss Sibal possessed to win his cases in a court of law,
because all you saw was mendacity and obfuscation.
True, I have documented the
serial dysfunctionality and severe perversity of our institutions - The Office
of The President Of India, The Prime Minister's Office, The Ministry of Law And
Justice,The Chief Information Commissioner - in New Delhi and in Hyderabad,
The Government Of Andhra Pradesh, The Andhra Pradesh High Court.
But it is their own egregious
misconduct and depravity that condemns these revered pillars of Indian society.
To misconstrue a serious
complaint against the insouciant corruption of our institutions as a
scurrilous attack on the institutions themselves is puerile.
In the public space, such an
attack, spearheaded by certified brainiacs of the Raj, amounts to the worst
type of Goebelsian propaganda.
It also reveals the desperation of the Raj.
It is this line of shoddy logic, craven cronyism, irresponsible denial of the perniciousness of corruption and most atrociously the tawdry trivialisation of the heroic naysayers who put their lives and reputations on the line that Shri Beteille purveys.
"Shit happens." Shri Beteille appears to say and oddly enough, so does the fact ticker firebrand Arundhati Roy.
Odder still, this article came at a time when the whole world was watching the fevers of the Indian Armed Forces trying to lose the corruption virus that had infected it.
Don't expect the self professed salt of the earth to come through like cocktail party memsaabs, but there you are.
If this keeps up, I am afraid the Left in India will be pinned with another dubious distinction.
That of having created The Shit Happens School Of Sociology.
